Ist Convocation Ceremony of
Sri Dev Suman Uttarakhand Vishwavidhyalaya,
Tehri (Garhwal), (Uttarakhand)

Sri Dev Suman Uttarakhand University, Tehri (Uttarakhand) celebrated its first convocation ceremony on 17th June 2017 in the benign Presence of Hon’ble Governor of Uttarakhand and Chancellor of the University.

Hon’ble Governor of Uttarakhand and Chancellor of the University Dr. K.K. Paul has presided over the function and conferred degrees to the University graduates. This ceremony was graced by Dr. Dhan singh Rawat, Minister of Higher Education, Govt. of Uttarakhand and Shri Dhan Singh Negi, Member of Legislative Assembly, Tehri Constituency alongwith the members of the Executive council and Academic council, eminent personalities, distinguished guests, district authorities, Principals and Deans of various colleges affiliated to Sri Dev Suman Uttarakhand University, Students and parents.

Before Convocation ceremony the Hon’ble Chancellor and other dignitaries visited University HQ premises and dedicated the University administrative wing to the public. Hon’ble Chancellor and other dignitaries also planted plants in the campus on this occasion.

Convocation ceremony started with ceremonial procession. Hon’ble Chancellor of the University in his presiding address paid tribute to Sri Dev Suman Ji, the great son of soil for his services for the cause of education, which reflects in the name of the University. While congratulating to the first batch of graduates, the Hon’ble Chancellor has emphasized, that this highly awaited ceremony is going to be one of the most memorable moment in the life of students. He specially stressed that every human being has an endless potential if he/she is inspired to achieve higher goals and make determined efforts to achieve these objectives. The greatest thing about human life is that each journey is different and unique. It has lessons to learn from. No matter how hard the situation may become, you must not loose hope. “Always dream big and aspire for a better tomorrow” mantra was given by the Hon’ble Chancellor to the students. The Chancellor also has shown his great satisfaction that this University, though in its initial phase of evolution, has established itself in relative shorter span of time and with limited resources. At present, the University is catering to the largest number of students in the state through a wide range of academic programmes specially professional courses. Thus, the university is playing a significant role in providing a considerable pool of human resources with social attention to the improvement of the social and economic conditions for the welfare of Uttarakhand.

Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat, Hon’ble Minister of Higher Education and Guest of Honour of the event expressed his views and emphasized on importance of access, quality, equity and employability in higher education. He also said that congenial atmosphere is being created in the universities and colleges by implementing the national policy of Higher Education in the state.

Sri Dhan Singh Negi, Hon’ble MLA, Tehri Constituency said that it is a matter of great pride and privilege that he became the witness of the first convocation ceremony of Sri Dev Suman Uttarakhand University in his constituency (Tehri Garhwal). On this occasion he conveyed his best wishes to the new graduates with the note to develop the positive ideas yes “we can do”.

Dr. U.S. Rawat, Vice Chancellor of the University, in his welcome address deliberated upon the activities and programmes of the University. He mentioned that University will try to fulfill the educational aspiration of the people of Uttarakhand in years to come. The University will leave no stone unturned in its quest for creating a worthwhile University and better society. The University is committed to make Higher Education accessible to all

Nearly 5879 students in the various subjects viz. B.Ed. of 2014 batch (2317 students), and 2015 batch (2504 students), M.Sc. 2015 session (31 students), M.A. (77 students), and session 2016 B.A. (251 students), B.Sc. (314 students), B.Com. (173 students), B.Sc. IT (25 students), M.Sc. (128 students), M.A. (59 students). Moreover 18 Gold medalist and 18 Silver medalist of post graduate students and 4 under graduate students from affiliated colleges/institutes received their gold medals from the Hon’ble Governor of Uttarakhand and silver medal from Hon’ble Higher Education Minister, Govt. of Uttarakhand.

At the end, the Registrar of the University has proposed the vote of thanks to the dignitaries, distinguished guests and students etc. who have been assembled in the convocation ceremony of Sri Dev Suman Uttarakhand University.
